2019 SUVs
The first trend on our 2019 cars list? SUVs! “You're gonna be surprised how many SUVs are out there,” says Karl. “This model has taken over, really, the entire new car market. Every brand is just loaded with multiple models – everything from like a small one, to a giant three-row luxury version.” Pretty much every car maker has at least three SUVs that check the small, medium, and large boxes. But Buick, Honda, Subaru, and Kia offer four SUVs; Jeep and Nissan have five; and Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota each have six SUV models, ranging from compact to huge.
2019 Sedans
Next on our 2019 cars roundup are sedans. “A lot of people – they don't really need the SUV space, and a sedan will serve them. [But] you're gonna probably see fewer choices,” shares Karl. But when everyone wants an SUV, look to sedans for savings. “You actually can probably get some good deals on some of the ones that were either canceled or soon will be canceled. And you can get a great price on a sedan if you're willing to buy one right now,” adds Karl. For example, Ford canceled the Fiesta, Focus, Taurus, and C-Max hybrid. And Chevy's Impala, Cruze and Volt models are on the chopping block, too, so look for those deals!
Electric Cars 2019
Okay, despite what's happening to the Volt, Karl says 2019 is finally the year that electric cars are for real. “We've seen electric vehicles for probably twenty-plus years in some form or another, but they've never been very successful, and truthfully they've never been very appealing,” informs Karl. Manufacturers have addressed issues like range anxiety. “When you go to shop and you look for something that's got 200-plus mile range, and excellent styling, and full feature set, and great performance, and acceleration, there are multiple models to choose from now that didn't exist even one or two years ago,” says our expert. And there are deals to be had in electric cars, too. “What's really changing for 2019 and beyond is the wide availability of really functional EVs at an affordable price – especially when you take into account the kind of tax breaks you'll get on one,” notes Karl. That’s right—2019 federal tax credits are worth up to $7,500, depending on the model.
