More than 13,000 people have made the dangerous journey from North Africa to Italy across the Mediterranean this year. Thousands have drowned doing so. Before they even get to the boats in Libya, many will have travelled for up to 6 days in the Sahara, in extreme temperatures. The starting point in the desert trek is Agadez, in Niger.
