On this episode of the travel photography vlog here in The Netherlands, I'm out in the town of Leiden doing some shooting. I spent most of the day working, but in the evening I wanted to get out and do some blue hour photography. The weather has been a bit overcast today, but blue hour can really help in creating dynamic images even in bad weather.
In most places, you can shoot blue "hour" photography for about 20 minutes. But, when it's summer away from the equator, that blue hour can last much longer. In fact, here in Leiden, Netherlands right now it starts at 9:57 and goes all the way until midnight. That's more than 2 hours of blue hour photography each day. There was no golden hour today because it was too cloudy. But, if you were to include the golden hour into the shooting schedule, there'd be basically 4 hours of proper light for landscape and travel photography right now in Holland.
Normally, I don't really do too many tutorials on this channel, because I think there are a lot of other travel photography channels out there that do those things. But, I do give you guys a bit of guidance on how to shoot the blue hour in a city like Leiden.
I also decided to test out some new time lapse modes on my GoPro Hero 5. Unfortunately, most of them didn't really work out the way I'd hoped. I go some really over-exposed images at first. And, I tried the "wide-dynamic range" mode on the GoPro and got some poor looking results. I'm going to try those things again tomorrow during the blue hour and in the middle of the day, though. So, check into tomorrow's vlog from here in Leiden for that.
As for the town of Leiden, Netherlands itself? I'm really enjoying it. I think it's a cool little town that kind of feels like Amsterdam without the tourists and crowds. And, it's beautiful. A very photogenic little city, for sure.
Tomorrow, I have another vlog from here in Leiden. So, be sure to stay tuned for more travel photography.
