Chana dal and brinjal curry is very tasty and popular in south indian. In any recipe we add eggplant then the flavour of that recipe will be increased.


Slender brinjals 250 gms
Chana dal(soaked) 1 cup
Water as required
Oil 2 -3 tsp
Onions 1 nos
Salt To tate
Ginger garlic paste ½ tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Curry leaves 1 spring
Red chilly powder ½ tsp
Cumin powder ¼ tsp
Coriander powder ¼ tsp
Garam masala 1-2 pinch
Coriander leaves ¼ bunch


1. Cut slender brinjals into big roundels.

2. Soak chana dal in water.

3. Heat oil in a pan, add onions, little salt and saute it.

4. Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, curry leaves, soaked chana dal, water and cook it for around 8 mins with lid on it.

5. Add slender brinjal, red chilly powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, little salt place lid and cook it but dal should not be overcooked, add garam masala and mix nicely.

6. Atlast add coriander leaves and mix nicely.
