An alternative to the sleeper stretch, the cross body horizontal adduction stretch.

Position yourself against a wall or doorway to stabilize the scapula. Your scapula should be positioned against the wall to prevent it from protracting around your rib cage during the stretch.

You can also perform a muscle energy technique during the stretch by performing an isometric contraction of the posterior shoulder muscles into horizontal abduction. Then, relax and perform the stretch.
