Despite bombing during a Ja Rule concert, Deon Cole has had a very successful career all based on great relationships and positive energy, which fortunately led to his opportunity on Conan O'Brien's show. Although his position to work as a staff writer with the television host was huge for him, he says he struggled with his new work schedule and contemplated about quitting to continue his stand-up. "I almost quit because I wasn't used to that situation of waking up at 7 in the morning." He said, "I was used to going to bed at 7 in the morning doing stand-up."
Before he could make a decision, he says two supportive employees who were the only black people working there at the time showed their appreciation and made him rethink his decision to leave. The comic says in those two separate instances involving the man and woman, they both told him how proud they were and told him to continue his work. Though Cole says he didn't want to hear it at first, it eventually got him to stay.
