This is easy and healthy Punjabi dish, made especially in winter with hara choliya or green chickpeas, the addition of spicy Punjabi vadiyan makes this dish irresistible. This dish is relished with parathas and steam rice.

Hara choliya 1 cup
Onion 2
Ginger 1 inch
Garlic 6-8
Coriander 10 gms
Green chilli 4-5
Water ¼ Cup + 2 cups
Oil 2-3 tbsp
Asafetida ¼ tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Ghee 2-3 tbsp
Tomatoes 2
Punjabi vadi 2 no.
Salt to taste
Coriander powder 1 ½ tbsp.
Red chilli powder 1 tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Garam masala 1 tsp

Peel and remove the seeds of hara choliya and keep aside
slice onions, ginger, and keep aside.
In a blender add onions, ginger, garlic, green chilli, coriander and ¼ Cup of water and blend to a fine paste.
In a pan heat oil add asafetida, cumin seeds, and sauté for 1 mins.
Add the paste from the blender and saute for 10 mins.
Meanwhile Heat ghee in another pan, Roughly chop tomatoes and blend to a puree. keep it aside.
When ghee is hot, add Vadis into the pan and fry for 2 min. remove the vadis in a bowl and add water. Keep this aside.
Add the tomato puree to the pan and mix well.
Add salt, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala. mix well and saute for 4-5 mins.
Add hara choliya, 2 cups water and mix well.
Add the remaining ghee from the pan in which vadis were fried.
Cover and cook for 10-12 mins
After 10 min. remove the cover and mix well.
Add the fried vadis and cook for 3-4 mins
Remove in serving bowl and garnish with coriander sprig.
Serve hot with parathas of your choice.
