In Tampa, residents could observe hundreds of manatees - marine mammals typical of the West Indies - gathering near a power station because of the warm water surrounding it. Tampa Electric says that the power station uses saltwater from the bay to cool the unit, and then it releases clean and warm water back into the bay.
In the mainland, on the other hand, the National Weather Service is warning people that due to temperatures going close to zero, they can expect falling… iguanas. Being cold-blooded animals, these lizards become motionless due to the freezing weather, and although they look dead, they are not. They are simply too cold to move!
