We may disagree over ideas and speak different languages, but we are united as people for the simple fact that we all have the potential, at least, to feel. And art, is how we share those feelings. Alastair is a 20-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and author of The Battle Within, a novel about a Canadian soldier struggling to come to terms with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Over the course of his military career, which includes nearly 3 years of service in Afghanistan, Alastair gained first-hand experience with violence, hardship, and resilience, and these ideas have formed the foundation of his creative work. Alastair’s talk will challenge us to reconsider what it means to be a warrior. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
