While some of the collectibles we’ve missed are in areas we’ve already visited – I imagine most of them are, in fact – some will be squirrelled away in optional dungeons. Located in out-of-the-way places that you often can’t access until you have the airship equivalent that opens up the world map, they put to test all that you’ve learned in the rest of the game a well as throw entirely new puzzles at you. Then there’s the optional superboss which are always more challenging than the final boss of the plot.
You’ve got to wonder why the superboss is content to let the plot villain take over and/or destroy the world. Perhaps they will be left unharmed by whatever the villain intends to do and thus doesn’t care. Maybe they are immortal, waiting for old age to take the villain as it does all their enemies. They might be pulling the strings in the background, the man behind the curtain that’s been manipulating events in the world for millennia without anyone else knowing… until now, that is. The one thing they didn’t anticipate was the heroes stumbling across them and their schemes.
Here’s to hoping there isn’t a superboss in Evoland for if there is, I’m not ready for it.
