After his defeat at our hands, Zephyros fled to the mana tree to regain his strength. One he’s fully healed, his true reign of terror will begin, plunging the world into oblivion and ruin with his unassailable power. The only chance for Evolandia is the hero who wields the power of Babamut, spurred on by Kaeris’s faith in him and the hopes of all people. He must push back his fear and face off against his nemesis one more time to decide the fate of everyone and everything once and for all.
...I think I crammed enough cliché into that last paragraph. *Reads it over again* Yes, I think that will suffice.
Evoland is a game that could have gone in many directions with its central idea and while the route it went wasn’t what I initially thought it’d be, that didn’t stop it being very enjoyable. Part of its success is embracing the cliché and poking fun at the genre and itself, all while being entertaining to play. The graphics slowly built up as time went on but were always nice to look at and I find myself humming some of the music as I go about my daily tasks. It’s not that difficult but I’d rather that then something far too hard, though I would have liked it being a little longer. I also would’ve wanted a couple more types of RPG to be shown off, but the decision to focus on the few they did was a wise one, for it allowed them to get the controls and feel of them just right. The collectibles were a nice little touch too, even if some of them were placed in outright fiendish places. If you’re a fan of RPGs and have played them through the earlier generations of video game consoles, I recommend playing this game to take a comedic trip down memory lane. I’d also suggest this game for people that want something light-hearted to play that has a wonderful charm all its own.
So what’s next? I’ve been enjoying playing games that I’ve not played before, so I think I’ll play another. What’s more, I think it’s time I played something even more recent than this game. As for the game itself, all I’ll say is that it’s from a genre that has had more let’s plays devoted to it than you’d think, as well as it being one which is fairly dark in more ways than one.
See you next let’s play!
