Aperture Laboratories was in a bad state at the start of the game, falling into ruin as nature slowly crept in to take it over. When GlaDOS woke up, the AI worked tirelessly to get the place fully operational once again, effort which has been completely undone in but a few short hours by Wheatley. Wheatley Laboratories as he now calls it is literally on the verge of destruction, soon to be consumed in a radioactive inferno that’ll eradicate everything within it and in a large radius around it, but Wheatley doesn’t care about any of that. All he wants to do is test, test and test some more, even as everything is falling apart around us. GlaDOS may have done that too, but care was also taken to ensure everything didn’t break down while science was going on.
Unfortunately for us, dealing with Wheatley isn’t going to be as easy as GlaDOS hoped it would be. Throwing a paradox at him failed – though it did fry the amalgam boxes behind us, a fact I didn’t notice at the time – so we’re going to have to find another way to get Wheatley out of the machine that controls the lab. The first step in that plan is getting away from Wheatley and the endless run of tests he plans to throw at us, a task easier said than done when he’s always keeping his eye on us. All we need is one moment of complacency and considering who we’re dealing with, that’ll happen sooner rather than later.
