It begins when Wei is at the police station with Inspector Teng, where she tells Wei that the bosses were unhappy with his recklessness when he infiltrated the Triads back then. Soon, Wei found himself to be an ordinary police officer. One night, when Wei was about to put a ticket to a sports car, he saw a suspicious looking blue Enterprise and chased it (and also told the dispatch its license number, which the dispatch found to be a rented car). The car stopped near a dragon dancer attraction, where Wei asked people around about men in yellow shirts. Wei quickly apprehends the suspects and made his way to the blue sedan, which turned out to be wired with a bomb. Then, he quickly ditched the car to the ocean. After that, Wei asked for the address and found out the address that the dispatch gave him is a warehouse. Wei investigated the warehouse and found out that the suspects he arrested was a group of cultists. After investigating, he was ambushed and managed to handle the ambush with help from a fellow officer. Back in the HQ, Wei interrogated one of the cultists and found out that the cult predicted an apocalypse when the Chinese New Year started. Year of the Snake takes place immediately after the original story of Sleeping Dogs. Wei Shen starts doing normal police work again, but is initially given punishment duty as a beat cop due to the carnage caused in the main story line. However, Wei almost immediately encounters a cult that is doing their best to usher in the apocalypse with a bang during Hong Kong's New Year celebrations. The DLC is 12 missions long and gives Wei the ability to taser and arrest opponents in combat. The third and final story-based expansion, Year of the Snake, was released in March 2013. It adds six missions set after the game's story. The additional missions feature Shen investigating terror attacks around Hong Kong stemming from a cultist group who believe that they will achieve spiritual salvation through the cleansing of Hong Kong residents. Shen must the sabotage the cult's activities, ultimately ending in the arrest of the cult master. The DLC also adds the ability for Shen to tase and arrest civilians and criminals around Hong Kong, as well as additional collectables, side missions, own-able police vehicles, and new clothing.
