NOTE FROM TED: While some viewers might find advice provided in this talk to be helpful as a complementary approach, please do not look to this talk for medical advice. We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at a TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside TEDx's content guidelines. This talk contains sweeping claims around early childhood development and epigenetics that are not supported by sufficient scientific evidence. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf

Sergio Pecorelli unveils his most recent research studying the environmental impacts on early life, from conception to 24 months. This fascinating talk highlights the critical benefits to lifelong health these first 1,000 days of life have on physical, mental, and emotional health. Sergio Pecorelli received his Medical Degree cum Laude at the University of Pavia, with his residency in OB/ GYN cum Laude at the University of Milano. After that, he completed his Fellowship in Pelvic Surgery at Mayo School of Medicine with a PhD in Gynecologic Oncology Research. His research has focused on female cancer and the implementation of primary and secondary prevention actions. Among other awards, he has received the Gold Medal for Public Health Services from the President of the Republic of Italy. He serves as part of the scientific committee of the Italian Olympic Sports Medicine Federation and is President of the Giovanni Lorenzini Medical Foundation.

He initiated, with an international team, a first-of-its-kind research project, called “The First 1000 days of Life”, aiming at studying 1500 pregnant women, their babies and the fathers of these babies. The study observes environmental influence on future health and wellness of these babies and their future generations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
