In this recipe I'll show you how to make the classic Jamaican fried dumplings called festivals. With a lovely crust on the exterior from frying and a sweet and chewy interior these Jamaican festivals are an excellent side dish with Caribbean meals. They are excellent as part of the traditional Jamaican breakfast, as a side for jerk dishes and works well when served with seafood as well. On it's own these Jamaican festivals are a great vegetarian side dish as well (treated as a bread).
1 1/2 cups flour 3 tablespoons cornmeal 1 cup water 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon vanilla
