If you were suddenly or unexpectedly in solitude, how would you utilize it? One can transform their healing journey by welcoming and finding meaning in solitude. In this TEDx talk, LaToya shares with others how her relocation from Wisconsin to North Carolina following a traumatic event helped her become better acquainted with solitude, which helped to further her healing process. Her hope is that her story will help others improve their relationship with and understanding of themselves and their ability to use solitude constructively. This TEDx talk also serves as a radical act of ending toxicity, generational trauma, and problematic family dynamics and patterns in families, including her own. LaToya S. Adkins, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a champion of solitude, storyteller, entrepreneur, licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and owner of candle company Solitude Scents, LLC whose primary focus is encouraging others to prioritize self-care while also viewing solitude as an opportunity for growth. LaToya, currently practicing as a LCSW at Duke University, aims to continue the work of healing both herself and others. She has worked on several projects related to solitude, including the de-stigmatization of solitude, de-coupling loneliness and solitude for women, and creating a resource guide for helping others navigate their solitude journeys. Adkins is a champion of solitude, storyteller, entrepreneur, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She started to encourage others to prioritize self-care and view their solitude as an opportunity for growth.
