Tomar, Portugal is one of our favorite cities in Portugal. Actually a top 10 on our list. Here is a little advice on what to see and how to get there from Lisbon.
1. Convento do Cristo: UNESCO World Heritage site with one of the most beautiful chapels in the world. It is circular (16 sides actually) and allowed for knights to ride their horses up to mass. It was used by the Knights Templar from the 12h to the 16th century. The chapel inside is amazing. We even have a couple extra videos to show you its magnificance.
2. Igreja de Sao Joao Baptista: John the Baptist Church is the one you see on the video. It is on Praca da Republica.
3. Museo dos Fosforos: The Match Museum. Why not see the largest collection of matches in Europe. Just please don't smoke inside :)
4. The Festa dos Tabuleiros: This festival held every four years sees "virgin" girls dressed in white balancing huge trays on their heads being helped by "non-required to be virgin" men helping out. Great to see in person if you are there.
