Alex Cairns has spent the last few years trying to break glass ceilings as he became the first student from Coventry to get a summer internship at J.P Morgan and is still to date the only student in Coventry’s 50 year history to have been on the J.P Morgan EMEA Graduate Scheme. With his unique insight, Alex discusses why he believes that anyone can be successful. Alex Cairns is the operations & strategy lead @ tech start-up tempo, former analyst @ J.P Morgan Investment Bank, student chair @ Coventry university & graduated with a 1st class honours degree from Coventry, CEO @ The Youth Vote, Advisor & Head of strategy to Shakira Martin (NUS President 2017-2019), UK Youth Ambassador to the EU & blogger at Huffington Post UK.

He has spent the last few years trying to break glass ceilings as he became the first student from Coventry to get a summer internship at J.P Morgan and is still to date the only student in Coventry’s 50 year history to have been on the J.P Morgan EMEA Graduate Scheme. He is passionate about making an impact, and through various leadership positions he has helped students from disadvantaged backgrounds, got more young people voting in elections to really have a democratic voice and was able to make changes on topics such as mental health as youth ambassador for the UK. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
